 Abstract:  Frederick Gibson Butler was a noted Oldsmobile designer employed at the Oldsmobile Research and Development Center in Lansing, Michigan. The papers and film primarily reflect Butler's personal interests in nature, the circus, the environment and family activities, with a smattering of business related material. There are four series. The Correspondence series is comprised of family, professional, and social correspondence. The Personal Interests series details Butler's amateur cinematography and editing processes, along with drafts of papers, speeches, and clippings. The Greeting Cards series is a collection of cards and notes sent to Butler and his family. The Film and Audio series contains mainly family related footage such as holiday gatherings and vacations, along with some business related footage. Also included are clips of circus performances, nature and wildlife.

 Abstract:  Henry and Clara Ford lived in a succession of fourteen homes, the last of which, Fair Lane, was constructed on the shores of their Rouge River estate in 1915. The Fair Lane papers contain documents representing the Fords' busy and complex lives assembled from the rooms of the mansion after Clara died in 1950.

10Title:  Fair Lane Railroad Business Car Collection, 1921-1986

 Abstract:  In 1920, Henry Ford commissioned the Pullman Company to build the Fair Lane business car. Ford, and his family, used this private car until 1942, when the car was sold to the St. Louis Southwestern Line. In 1973, it was donated to the Cherokee National Historical Society, and 7 years later, was purchased by Richard Kughn, who restored the car and updated it to modern Amtrak specifications. The Fair Lane Railroad Business Car Collection contains photographic prints; blueprints, assembly drawings and wiring diagrams; correspondence from 1957-1975 and 1980-1989; 3 wall plaques; a logbook dating from 1948-1971; expense and inspection reports, work orders, and mechanical logbooks from the 1980s; 36 record books from 1983-1984 noting mileage and destinations; parts and installation manuals; restoration paperwork; three 12-inch floppy disks; and newspaper clippings. The collection is open for access, except for the 3 items of floppy disk electronic media.

 Abstract:  The Faught family lived in Michigan during the 1890s. Shortly before Sarah Faught gave birth to her twelfth child on 19 January 1890, she made a batch of doughnuts for her family. When Sarah unexpectedly died five days after giving birth to her daughter Josie, the family kept one of the doughnuts as a memorial to her life, along with other mementos. This collection contains the family Bible, which held loose correspondence, newspaper clippings, and other items. Also included are 4 photographs, including prints of Sarah and Josie. There is also a scrapbook with additional photographs, newspaper clippings, and birth, marriage, and death certificates relating to family members.

 Abstract:  In order to analyze new tractor tire products, the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company utilized the Firestone Farm in Ohio as a proving center. Charles Harper started working on the farm in 1948 as an assistant manager, eventually moving up to manager, where he served for 30 years. The farm, while providing a testing area for the company, also raised crops and cattle. The Firestone Homestead Test Center Collection contains 2 booklets regarding the center, circa 1960; a notebook containing copy photographs from the Homestead farm and photocopies of the 2 booklets; a copy photograph of Firestone Farm at Greenfield Village in 2005; photocopies of Firestone Farm reports from 1946, 1948, and 1954; and 6 large format photoprints or photocopies containing images of Firestone Farm in Ohio. 0.7 cubic ft.  Abstract:  Frank Armstrong worked as a salesman, traveling field representative, and New York branch manager for the Electric Vehicle Company during the company's most ambitious and unsuccessful attempt to establish a monopoly in the automobile industry and in the market for taxicab service in major American cities. The papers are comprised of both Armstrong's business and personal papers and consist of correspondence, meeting minutes, financial statements, stock issues and general accounting information related to his career in the electric vehicle industry at the beginning of the twentieth century. Also included are materials related to several lawsuits Armstrong was involved in, his military records, and a small number of blueprint reproductions of several electric vehicles.

He worked on the Rouge plant, as well as other plants in England, France, China, and Japan. In 1932, Riecks was part of a delegation that traveled around China for Ford Motor Company. This photograph album documents the first trip made with a Ford from Shanghai to Nankin on the first highway in China, with images of the countryside and assorted structures. Also included is one portrait of E.A. Reiniger of Ford Motor Company, along with his written description of the journey.

 Abstract:  Collection consists of a single album containing photographs taken during the 1934 Century of Progress International Exposition held in Chicago, Illinois. Images show Ford staff, presenters, and performers, along with exhibit buildings and visitors, including Henry and Edsel Ford. The album was either made by or assembled for Fred L. Black, who was selected by Edsel Ford to organize the Ford Motor Company exhibit at the Exposition, and who appears in many of the images. Prior to that assignment, Black had served as Editor of the Dearborn Independent and head of the Ford Advertising Department. He would go on to oversee Ford involvement in other expositions held during the 1930s, including the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair.

 Abstract:  The Frerer Family Photographs consists of five paper-bound photograph albums that contain 68 snapshots and 11 photographic negatives taken during a family vacation in July 1952. The Frerer family traveled to Lost Land Lake in northern Wisconsin and stayed for two weeks at a resort, first in the owner's cabin and then in a different cabin. The photographs were taken by the donor's parents, and include views of the family at the two cabins, with the family dog and car (a Plymouth), with a fishing boat, and other related activities.
