 Abstract:  Edwin H. Porter served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 4th Michigan Calvary during the U.S. Civil War. Born in New York in 1823, Porter moved to Michigan in 1833. He enlisted with the 4th Michigan Cavalry in 1862 and mustered out in 1864. Following the Civil War, Porter served in various positions in Michigan state government. Porter died in 1912. The papers include invoices and lists of stores, vouchers, "Return of Provisions" forms, auditor reports, and special field orders, among others.

 Abstract:  Wilding Picture Productions, founded in Detroit by Norman Wilding in 1914, was known for its production and distribution of motion pictures, television commercials, and industrial films. In 1962, the company created the film "Of Shadows and Kings" for the Ford Motor Company. In the film, a salesman explains and shows all of the new features of the 1963 Ford Thunderbird and how the car would be marketed toward "the more mature but active driver searching for quality and luxury." The "Of Shadows and Kings" Film Collection contains one reel of 16mm color motion picture film containing the aforementioned industrial film and one VHS videocassette featuring the 1963 Thunderbird.

 Abstract:  Around 1948, the Packard Motor Car Co. commissioned filmstrips to assist its sales department in working with customers. These instructional films covered assorted topics, including appearance and chassis features, building a clientele, having a selling career with Packard, basic Packard superiorities, selling a new car, and new engine features for 1948. This collection contains all 8 of the filmstrips, which had been owned by Robert N. Perry of the sales department. Titles of the films are: "On the Line," "Whattcha Gonna Gimme?," "Million Dollar Chassis," "Yours for a Lifetime," "The Second Chance," "The Little Giants," "The Nimble Young Man," and "Three of the Finest." Also included is one DVD, produced by the Benson Ford Research Center, that contains digital copies of the filmstrips.
