 Abstract:  In the 1930s, Butler Brothers of New York began a franchising business that included the Ben Franklin chain of retail stores, and in 1938 William and Florence Pabst opened a Ben Franklin store in Croswell, Michigan. The collection includes materials from the Pabst's store, including labels, pricing and sales signage, a store owner operating manual, and several digital reproductions of vintage photographs.

 Abstract:  The Faught family lived in Michigan during the 1890s. Shortly before Sarah Faught gave birth to her twelfth child on 19 January 1890, she made a batch of doughnuts for her family. When Sarah unexpectedly died five days after giving birth to her daughter Josie, the family kept one of the doughnuts as a memorial to her life, along with other mementos. This collection contains the family Bible, which held loose correspondence, newspaper clippings, and other items. Also included are 4 photographs, including prints of Sarah and Josie. There is also a scrapbook with additional photographs, newspaper clippings, and birth, marriage, and death certificates relating to family members.

 Abstract:  The Frerer Family Photographs consists of five paper-bound photograph albums that contain 68 snapshots and 11 photographic negatives taken during a family vacation in July 1952. The Frerer family traveled to Lost Land Lake in northern Wisconsin and stayed for two weeks at a resort, first in the owner's cabin and then in a different cabin. The photographs were taken by the donor's parents, and include views of the family at the two cabins, with the family dog and car (a Plymouth), with a fishing boat, and other related activities.

In the collection are the marriage certificate of James Gardner and Jane Flaherty, 29 Nov 1882, and a letter of thanks to the church choir on the occasion of the death of James.

 Abstract:  Herbert and Isabelle Goltry lived in Allen Park, Michigan, and had 3 children: William (Billy), Marie, and Ester. On 24 June 1946, Isabelle's brother wed, and at the reception, chicken salad tainted with typhoid bacteria was served, sickening 22 wedding guests and leading to 11 year old Billy's death. This collection focuses mainly on Billy Goltry, and includes his birth certificate, report cards, pencil drawings, and Cub Scout card. Also included are greeting cards; correspondence and newspaper clippings regarding his illness and death; original and copied photographic prints; invitations to his uncle's wedding and the 1957 Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing graduation; and Marie's reminiscences of life with Billy.

12Title:  Harry Brooks Sympathy Acknowledgement Card, 1928

 Abstract:  Harry Brooks, a noted test pilot from Southfield, Michigan, worked for the Stout Metal Airplane Division of the Ford Motor Company. In his time there, he primarily worked with the Ford Trimotor, performing its first night flight and even transporting Charles Lindbergh's mother to Mexico in 1927. In 1926, Brooks also tested the new Ford Flivver. 1928 witnessed Brooks making his second attempt setting a long distance flying record. He landed in Titusville, Florida, with a bent propeller, short of the record. The next day, after making the repairs himself, Harry Brooks left Titusville and circled over the Atlantic Ocean, where his plane went down off the coast of Melbourne, Florida, due to a technical malfunction. The Harry Brooks Sympathy Acknowledgement Card contains one piece of correspondence from the Brooks family thanking the members of the Rebekah Lodge, of Birmingham, Michigan, for the card they sent to the family.  Abstract:  In 1904, Anthony Lyk immigrated to the United States from Poland, joined by his wife Rose and their infant son Joseph later in the year. The Lyk family, expanding with six more children, settled in Elmira, a small farming village in northern Michigan. Over the next 50 years, Anthony achieved success as a farmer and was active in the community, serving as a Justice of the Peace and county commissioner. The Lyk Family papers consist of photocopies and original documents of property records, public office appointments, baptismal and naturalization records documenting the life of Anthony Lyk and his family.

 Abstract:  The Robertson papers are the lettera of Isaac and John Robertson to family members in Ohio. They were sent from various military camps of the Union Army during the Civil War and describe some of the battles in which the brothers participated. Included in the collection is a letter informing Mrs. Robertson that the effects of John, deceased, had been shipped from the hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Another letter accompanied pension forms from the Ohio Military Claim office. Of particular interest are the patriotic motifs on some of the stationery.

 Abstract:  Curt Flood, an African-American Major League Baseball player, was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Philadelphia Phillies without his permission in 1969. Flood felt that the league's reserve clause in contracts violated federal laws and his rights, ultimately resulting in a suit against the league. Although Flood lost the suit, his efforts helped modify the reserve clause and inspired the 10/5 rule, which requires consent from certain players before trades. The Curt Flood Collection contains a copy of his lawsuit, correspondence regarding "The Baseball Network," signed photographs of St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres players, a signed 1967 Cardinals dinner program, a program from the 20th Annual NAACP Image Awards, and a 1968 edition of Sports Illustrated that featured Flood on the cover. 0.3 cubic ft.
