 Abstract:  Joseph R. Grenier worked as a photographer for the Packard Motor Car Co. in Detroit, Michigan. This collection contains a large number of 8x10 black-and-white photographic prints and negatives documenting the Packard plant, automobile shows, assorted Packard automobiles including the Patrician and the Clipper, assorted automobile parts, testing in the plant and on the road, and firefighter drills performed at the plant. Also included are the December 1949 issue of the Packard News, two audiocassettes that contain an interview with Grenier made on 3 March 2003, six CD-ROMs containing digital images, and one unlabeled CD-ROM.

 Abstract:  Around 1948, the Packard Motor Car Co. commissioned filmstrips to assist its sales department in working with customers. These instructional films covered assorted topics, including appearance and chassis features, building a clientele, having a selling career with Packard, basic Packard superiorities, selling a new car, and new engine features for 1948. This collection contains all 8 of the filmstrips, which had been owned by Robert N. Perry of the sales department. Titles of the films are: "On the Line," "Whattcha Gonna Gimme?," "Million Dollar Chassis," "Yours for a Lifetime," "The Second Chance," "The Little Giants," "The Nimble Young Man," and "Three of the Finest." Also included is one DVD, produced by the Benson Ford Research Center, that contains digital copies of the filmstrips.

 Abstract:  William K. Bondesen of Houston, Texas, purchased a new Ford Thunderbird in 1962. Ford Motor Company later sent him a packet of materials, enclosed in a gold-color mailing tube. This collection contains that mailing tube as well as the contents, which include a letter of thanks signed by Lee Iacocca, a scroll in recognition of his purchase, and a wallet card inscribed with Bondesen's name and the car's serial number that was to be presented to be assured of preferred service from Ford dealers.

 Abstract:  The Wright Brothers operated their cycle shop in Dayton, Ohio, from 1897 to 1908. In the late 1930s, Henry Ford bought the building and had it reconstructed in Greenfield Village, with input from Orville Wright. The Photographs Formerly on Exhibit in Wright Cycle Shop contains 20 photographic prints of Wilbur Wright with various individuals, as well as the Wright Flyer in France or Germany, that had previously been on display in the shop. The collection is open for research. 0.3 cubic ft. (1 box).

 Abstract:  During World War II, Ford Motor Company erected a massive factory complex near the Willow Run River in Washtenaw County, Michigan. Between 1942 and 1945, employees at the plant turned out 8,685 B-24 airplanes. To assist with production, a manual was created containing administrative reports and planning materials, with updates distributed monthly. Twelve copies were distributed to various administrators, with the copy in this collection being the Master Copy. The Master Copy is housed in a 3-inch three-ring binder, and contains pages of onion skin as well as photostatic and mimeograph copies. Many pages have been taped together to create an early form of a spreadsheet. The collection is open for research. 0.3 cubic ft. (1 box).

 Abstract:  The National Graniteware Society was a group dedicated to collectors of the enamel-coated metal cookware known at graniteware. This collection contains research materials that members could have utilized in researching their items, including newsletters; photocopies of catalogs; and publications from other groups, such as the National Enameling & Stamping Co. Also included are a bag of labels; 5 mounted graniteware finish samples; 15 unlabeled tubes of loose samples; 2 jars of white frit and ground coat frit; and 8 uncoated spherical samples.

 Abstract:  Robert and Frank Stranahan founded the Champion Spark Plug Company in 1908. Throughout its history, the company has provided spark plugs for a variety of vehicles, from the Ford Model T to the Concorde to the Eurostar train. The Champion Spark Plug Co., Ceramics Division Records contains verbal order sheets; departmental records; files from the nurse's office; employee transfer notices and discharge papers; employee ratings standards; and schedules for plant guards, which included two female guardettes. Also included are World War II war bond pledge cards and receipts; ration renewal applications; and logs for kiln burns and other ceramics equipment. 4.0 cubic ft. (4 boxes).

 Abstract:  Bruce Licher studied the letterpress printing process at the Women's Graphic Center in Los Angeles in 1982. Using these skills, he was able to create promotional materials and album packing for his band, Savage Republic, as well as other bands in the Los Angeles area. He later started Independent Project Press and Independent Project Records, both utilizing his letterpress skills to create artistic media packaging, stationery and cards, wine labels, book and magazine covers, and promotional postcards and posters. This collection contains five holiday and celebration cards, one wine label, four stamps books and sheets, five exhibition cards, one paperstock sample, seven business card samples, eight record sleeves (two for LPs, two for 10", and four for 7"), and four CD sleeves.

 Abstract:  Arthur Breuninger worked as a toolmaker and machinist in the Springfield, Massachusetts area, including for many years at the Bosch Magneto Company. In 1936, at age 19, Breuninger began an apprenticeship with Bosch and shortly thereafter placed an order with the Ford Trade School for a set of Trade School instructional books. The collection includes these books, along with the original invoice, as well as three other guides and books related to machining and toolmaking.
